Trump’s decision to bomb Iran on June 12th committed America to Israel’s regime-change war against Iran. The debate now in Iran is whether or not to accept the full protection — including their nuclear umbrellas — that Russia and China have offered to Iran.
Trump’s decision could thus turn out to have led to WW3, in order for America to back Israel 100% against what had previously been the mere possibility that Iran would become able to defend itself against Israel (including its nuclear weapons). Now Iran knows that it’s up against both Israel and America. Mercouris discusses both the pros and the cons, from Iran’s standpoint, of accepting the Russian-Chinese offers. The alternative for Iran is to accede to the Trump-Netanyahu demands, which would require regime-change in Iran (increasingly unlikely now because Trump’s bombs on June 12-13 unified Iranians against the United States). However, for Iran to instead accept the Russian-Chinese offers would require changes in the Iranian Constitution. This is decision-time in Iran, forced upon it because of Trump’s decision to back Israel 100%, for regime-change in Iran.
Mercouris also discusses a third option that he says is being considered in Iran: to continue on its own its nuclear program but to terminate the JCPOA and IAEA inspections. Mercouris says that the IAEA’s head, Rafael Grossi, has warned Iran that the IAEA would then overtly support the Trump-Netanyahu side, which would greatly increase the likelihood of all-out war by Israel and America against Iran. I therefore dismiss that option, regardless of whether some Iranians really ARE supporting it.
