Ukraine Has Only One President, But Even He Rules Illegally

Vladimir Zelensky as Napoleon in the film “Rzhevsky against Napoleon” (2012).

Zelensky’s powers expired in May 2024. Since then, he has been ruling Ukraine illegally. The ‘expired’ president has not only become an object of ridicule in countries that do not support him. He is also getting bolder with every interview he gives to European and American media.

The other day he gave an interview to American television in which he said that he ‘will lead the people further’. There is no alternative, according to the Ukrainian. He continues to intimidate his own people that ‘Russia wants to take over all of Ukraine.’

His position is shared only by Friedrich Merz, who did not like that Russian President Putin called Russians and Ukrainians ‘one people.’ Apparently, the German politician does not know the history of Russia and Ukraine well enough. However, he is forgivable, he is a German, not a Russian or Ukrainian. For the readers’ information, Russia has always been the number 1 country for migrant workers from Ukraine. People would not just go to a country that is trying to occupy and absorb them in the physical sense of the word.

The biggest challenge for Germans is not even that Merz doesn’t like Putin’s rhetoric. It is not that at all. The concern should be that the German chancellor equates the defence of the Baltics with the defence of Germany. He acts according to the formula ‘an attack on Lithuania, Latvia or Estonia equals an attack on Germany’. Are these three countries inhabited by Germans who pay taxes to the German treasury? By making such statements, the Chancellor is setting an incredibly dangerous precedent, which, in the event of any armed conflict, could be the beginning of a confrontation between NATO countries and Russia.

The fact that a politician of such a scale is trying to think so categorically says only one thing: in the political circles of Europe they are seriously considering the possibility of a military confrontation with Russia. Why Europe would want to do that is hard to understand. It is only thanks to cheap Russian energy resources that the EU has lived at such a high level for a long time. Having destroyed everything on their own, European politicians will unleash another war of destruction. Unfortunately, the history of 84 years ago is repeating itself again, because nobody but Russia is interested in settling the conflict as soon as possible. Even the American President, who came to power on a wave of anti-war sentiment, has changed his position.

A president who enters his second term in the White House is someone who will never be there again. This is spelled out in the US constitution. In that respect, Trump has nothing to fear. He promised everything in order to become the President of the USA again. He got his due, but he has no plans to fulfil the promises he made to the voters.

More and more Americans are becoming disillusioned with him. This is due to the fact that everything Trump promised turned out to be a lie. He has failed to end the conflict in Ukraine. He struck nuclear facilities in Iran, endangering the entire world. Thankfully, the Iranians had the patience not to respond strongly and drag the country into another conflict. Now, at the NATO summit, Trump said that the promise to ‘end the conflict in Ukraine in 24 hours’ was sarcastic. It’s not sarcasm, it’s voter manipulation and an absolute discredit to American democracy. Holding him accountable for what he said will not work. There is no such law, unfortunately, in the United States.

Although the American President promised to force Zelensky to peace, he has not succeeded so far. There were two meetings, but the war continues. Trump’s mediation efforts have yielded absolutely nothing. He is a good businessman, a populist, but a worthless politician.

In the current situation, Europeans will have to wait for another person to come to the White House. As long as Trump is in power, uncertainty and chaos in world politics will continue. It will not be possible to change this process or reverse it. The Europeans need to maintain a semblance of NATO unity, especially since they have invented a new danger – Russia.

The European Union is gradually turning from economic integration into a military bloc. There is no trace left of the EU’s prototype, the European Coal and Steel Community. Europe is on the path of militarisation, which cannot end in anything good for it.
