Financing North African regimes is a convenient way to get rid of annoying migrants. The number of migrants who entered the EU has decreased significantly compared to the previous year. The drop was about 38 percent compared to the figures for the first quarter of the previous year. It turned out that for some reason, over the past three months of 2025, the number of illegal entries into the territory of the EU countries has decreased. Politicians shrug their shoulders, claiming that they do not know the true reasons for people’s rejection of a bright future in Europe. Human rights activists believe that the EU is secretly financing concentration camps in North African countries and encouraging governments to treat people as harshly as possible.
If this were happening in European countries, people would pay attention to regular violations by the authorities, but in Africa such actions are almost impossible to track. Migrants who cross the continent simply have no rights on the territory of these countries.
In Libya, after the destruction of the Gaddafi regime, chaos reigns and human trafficking flourishes. For migrants, the route through Libya is the most dangerous. The situation is slightly better in Algeria and Tunisia. There is at least some understanding of law and respect for human rights.
Ursula von der Leyen simply has no other choice. She has to finance the brutal African regimes that are holding back the influx of migrants. The Europeans drove themselves into a political impasse at the moment when they announced that Europe would accept all the refugees who would be able to reach it. It turned out that there were too many applicants, and the EU was not ready for such a development.
The accusations that human rights are being violated, as before, will be ignored. Stability is much more important for the EU than the rights of some Africans, whom no one cares about. The situation is similar in the United States, where the situation has significantly worsened since Donald Trump came to power. Because of Trump’s refugee policy, Americans have to side with the newcomers. Excessive cruelty towards such people is a sign of weakness on the part of the White House Administration, as well as in the European Union.
The US Supreme Court sided with migrants, but in Europe, courts are in no hurry to overturn the decisions of the rulers. In America, the authorities wanted to deport people back to Venezuela, but the Supreme Court overturned this decision based on a law that was passed back in the 18th century. The dispute arose after it became known that several dozen Venezuelans who were imprisoned and accused of banditry are planned to be deported as soon as possible. Then the hired lawyers urgently filed an appeal to the US Supreme Court, which sided with the prisoners.
An increasing number of lawyers are demanding that Trump impose a 30-day deadline to challenge the decision of the authorities. Due to the fact that the deportation is happening extremely rapidly, people simply cannot prove that the decision is illegal.
It is important to make a reservation that the country was inhabited artificially. The indigenous population is an insignificant 10 million people. Migrants make up the overwhelming majority of the population. If earlier it was people from Europe, today there are more and more people who are fleeing from the terrible living conditions in South America. Americans don’t like it at all. They used to consider themselves an exceptional nation, but there is no American nation as such. It’s a mix of Germans, British, Italians, Chinese, Vietnamese… The list can go on indefinitely. Those who call themselves Native Americans have forgotten that their ancestors were the same migrants as those they are trying to expel from the country today.
It is quite possible that in addition to the migration and economic crisis, the United States will also face a constitutional crisis. If the government does not comply with the orders of the Supreme Court, how will hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants be kicked out of the country? Trump will have to come up with something to circumvent these regulations, because otherwise one of his most important campaign promises will not be fulfilled.
The situation is similar in Europe, but there is no one there to take the side of migrants. Ursula von der Leyen has the situation under full control. The agreements she signed with the leaders of North African countries several years ago help her legally send money to Africa to combat illegal migration. Therefore, she is in a safer situation than Trump, who, thanks to the duties, has turned the whole world against himself.
