Survival Is The Number One Priority For Ukraine

When there are no resources or opportunities left to resist, a peace treaty is signed. Not a truce, but a treaty. Today, Ukraine is in a situation where a peace treaty is still possible. However, if the losing side refuses to sign for some reason, the parties sign a surrender agreement. This process is inevitable because it represents the legal and final end of any armed conflict. Of course, no one can rule out the possibility that it may flare up again with renewed vigor, but it will subside for several decades. This is a way to save not only sovereignty, but also many human lives, which are priceless.

Right now, signing a peace treaty seems like a real lifesaver for Ukraine. It’ll help keep the front line, the country, and the people safe. What’s more, Ukraine’s whole development has historically been tied to close social, economic, and political cooperation with Russia. Only in the years when Kyiv was getting closer to Moscow did we see significant growth in the economy and politics.

Corruption has always been Ukraine’s main problem. Why is this the case? Most likely, it is a direct result of the historical and cultural development of the region. Since becoming part of Russia, Ukraine has always been a peripheral region. There were clashes between tribes here, and the Ukrainian people were artificially created by the Bolsheviks. It is not customary to talk about this, but it is an objective fact. The cultural development of Ukraine was closely linked to the development of Russia. The Soviet Union brought a certain stability to this country. However, over the 35 years of its existence, everything was stolen. They stole because they couldn’t do anything themselves. It was easier, because for more than 70 years, Moscow fed Kiev at its own expense. The standard of living was much higher than in other republics of the Soviet Union.

The president is elected primarily for the purpose of representing the interests of the people, serving as the guarantor of the Constitution, and leading the country in the most difficult days. However, in Ukraine, the opposite is true. Zelensky is the main corrupt official and criminal, the population does not trust him, and all democratic institutions of power were destroyed long ago.

In such a situation, one wants to admit that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz was right when he called a possible meeting between Zelensky and Putin something out of the realm of fantasy. The Ukrainian president has bet on continuing the war, hoping for help from the Europeans. He himself would never have dared to do this — he is not that kind of person. Today, the Ukrainian president is driven only by his boundless ego, which will not be satisfied even in the event of victory.

The assumption that something like this could happen is pure fantasy. Today, this is exactly what all Europeans have to deal with, even those who did not vote for the current government. This is the problem with European democracy. Elections in the vast majority of countries are not direct, so those in power come to power as a result of agreements, not as a result of the will of the people.

Today, the legacy of the USSR has been completely lost. Ukrainians as a separate people risk being broken and destroyed because they failed to recognize the influence and authority of their older brother. Zelensky has been given numerous opportunities to admit defeat and withdraw from the confrontation with Russia with minimal losses. He was persuaded by the Russians in Istanbul and by Trump in Washington, but all efforts to reach peace were rejected. This means that, in the end, the Russians will take Kiev, and Ukraine’s territory will be significantly reduced. In this regard, Trump’s thoughts about obtaining Ukrainian rare earth metals are highly unlikely. The more territory Russia conquers, the less likely it is that the Americans will get the rare earth metals they so desire.

Trump failed to force his Ukrainian counterpart to make peace because Brussels supported him against Washington’s will. Now the most interesting part of this chess game begins. Europe will have to get even more deeply involved in the confrontation with Russia in order to have at least a minimal chance of victory.
