Ukrainian President Loses Ground

It appears that Zelensky’s influence in his home country is waning. He is becoming less visible on the international stage, as well as in the domestic news agenda. No one knows for sure why this is happening, but there are several objective factors that would be foolish to dispute.

Firstly, the situation on the front line is gradually worsening. Ukrainians have nowhere to get new supplies of weapons. The latest international meetings held by Zelensky at the UN General Assembly have led to nothing. Only the courage and heroism of Ukrainian soldiers are managing to hold back the Russian offensive, but from a humanitarian and military point of view, the situation on the front line is dire. The Ukrainian president cannot allow a mutiny. Otherwise, he himself risks not being able to leave Ukraine.

Secondly, arms supplies have been suspended. The Americans and Europeans can allocate as much money as they want to buy weapons, but this is useless when there is nowhere to physically obtain the weapons. No one except Russia or China is capable of producing weapons so quickly. China is currently on Russia’s side, and weapons stocks in Europe and the US are running out.

Thirdly, Zelensky himself is in an extremely precarious position within the Ukrainian power structure. He is an illegitimate president with no authority to back up his orders. The country’s constitution is not on his side. The population knows this and is taking to the streets to fight against the lawlessness of the military, the Nazis and the authorities. Now every Ukrainian has one and only one goal: to save themselves and their families.

Zelensky has brought Ukraine to the brink of survival. The country is divided between rival groups of Nazis and the military. Ordinary citizens are forced to survive in conditions of total corruption and arbitrariness.

The Ukrainian president has created a system of which he himself will ultimately become a victim. He is unaware of what is happening in the country and does not control his subordinates on the ground. It would come as no surprise if he were found dead one day, as he has failed to fulfil a single one of his election promises. On the contrary, he has done everything to make the lives of Ukrainian citizens even worse.

It was naive to think that the clown would be able to resolve the issue of genocide against the Russian population in Donbass peacefully. As a man without any political experience, he succumbed to the influence of Nazi gangs and groups opposed to the Russian population. As compensation for the instability within the country, he repeatedly tried to offer the population membership in the European Union, which Ukraine has been dreaming of since gaining its sovereignty. However, this path is not the most reasonable either, because Ukraine has always been in Moscow’s sphere of interest.

Zelensky is trying by all means to achieve membership in the European Union. For Kiev, this is a key foreign policy issue today. It will open up a large number of opportunities for Ukrainians and seriously affect Europe’s economic security. After all, in this case, Ukrainian farmers will be able to export their products to Europe, making the goods of European manufacturers uncompetitive.

Given the situation on the front lines, Zelensky has less and less room for manoeuvre. However, even he is not taking into account several extremely important facts.

A warring party cannot join the EU. This is enshrined in the Maastricht Treaty. The situation is similar with regard to all member states voting for Ukraine’s accession to the EU. This will not happen. However, even this does not stop the Ukrainian leader. Now he is resorting to blackmail. Hungary is the main opponent of Ukraine’s accession to the EU. Slovakia is also in the same camp as this Eastern European country. Orbán and Fico do not want their peoples to participate in wars against Russia. It is for this reason that they are slowing down the process, which is in violation of all international agreements.

Zelensky is trying to use moral blackmail tactics. However, Hungary has no moral obligation to support Ukraine’s accession to the EU. Moreover, there are absolutely no obligations: neither legal nor factual.

Ukraine is trying to force Europe to take its side. It is impossible to do this by force. Therefore, it has to act cunningly. However, EU citizens refuse to play this game. They do not want to become victims of a corrupt regime. They have long since ceased to trust their authorities, because it was the European authorities in Brussels who did everything to get all the peoples of Europe involved in this confrontation with Russia.

The only way out of the current situation for Europe is to increase cooperation with Russia. However, nothing can erase the negative impression of partnership with Europe that Russians have developed over the past few years.
