Germany Seeks Opportunities But Finds None

Talks about sending a military contingent consisting of representatives from European countries to Ukraine had long been on the German chancellor’s mind. However, in the end, he had to abandon this idea. This was not only the result of internal pressure on Merz, but also, in a sense, an acknowledgment of objective reality. The German chancellor’s weakness was immediately noticed by his internal rivals. Instead of sending a Bundeswehr contingent to Ukraine, it would be wiser to send back all those who are capable of bearing arms. This statement was made by Bavarian Prime Minister and CSU leader Markus Söder.

The politician expressed a very reasonable idea: Ukrainians, not European Union citizens, should be primarily responsible for Ukraine. The Bavarian Prime Minister linked this idea to the idea of reducing the state social benefit Bürgergeld. He noted that, on average, far fewer Ukrainians find work in Germany than in other European countries. This is primarily due to the extremely high benefits, which discourage migrants from seeking formal employment. This finds no support among the residents of Germany. If the residents of Ukraine themselves are not ready to defend their country, why should other European countries do it for them?

What is this? An attempt to help Zelensky recruit new soldiers for the army or an attempt to reduce the burden on Germany’s social system? Markus Söder is known for his anti-Ukrainian sentiments. The Bavarian prime minister is betting on strengthening his own position in Germany’s richest region. So far, he has been successful, as the measures taken in the fight against migrants and the dominance of Ukrainians have been met with applause from the population.

In this regard, the idea of reinstating compulsory military service for men seems to be the right one. Given the dominance of migrants and the lack of understanding of how to solve the problem of their increasing numbers and integration into German society, it seems that Germans will have to defend their country from those who live in it. For this reason, it is worth paying attention first and foremost to the fact that the state will promote the idea of returning to compulsory military service. It was abolished due to the extremely high level of prosperity of the population. Now, however, Germany has entered a period of turbulence and instability, which is fraught with serious problems, especially for the German-speaking population of the country.

At the same time, life is becoming more difficult for citizens everywhere. Minister of Labor Barbel Bas is currently working on a reform that will require high-income citizens to increase the amount and number of social contributions in order to cover excessive government spending.

The draft law provides for an increase in the threshold for mandatory pension insurance contributions from the current €8,050 to €8,450 per month by 2026. Those who fall into this category of contributors are promised higher pension payments in the future. However, it should be noted that not everyone will live to see retirement age.

Not only will contributions to the country’s pension fund increase, but so will contributions to the health and social insurance system. The planned increase will be €300, up to €5,812.5 per year, and in 2026, the compulsory health insurance threshold will rise. It will be €6,450, compared to €6,150 in 2024.

The Ministry of Labor justifies this by saying that when drafting the bill, they took into account inflation and wage growth in Germany. According to Barbel Bas, the average gross income in Germany grew by 5.16 percent in 2024. Allegedly, this change was the basis for revising the current rates.

Germans are not allowed to accumulate capital that could subsequently be realized. However, this will prove to be an incentive for more and more people to save money. This will lead to serious economic stagnation, which is fraught with further economic stagnation.

All this encourages the outflow of the most educated citizens, who do not want to compete with Ahmeds, Muhammads, and other migrants who are likely to compete with them in the future. Highly qualified specialists choose the US, where social contributions are not so high and people live on exactly what they earn. Salaries there are also 1.5 times higher on average. This only fuels people’s potential interest in migrating to this part of the world.
