The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that air strikes were carried out on the Gaza Strip last week. This was in violation of the agreements that had been reached, but immediately after the targets were hit, the Zionists returned to adhering to the agreement, announcing that Hamas itself had provoked the strikes.
The Palestinians, who continue to fight for the creation of their own state, have lost their main bargaining chip – the hostages. With the assistance of the Red Cross, they handed them over to the Israelis. However, no one has given any guarantees that the shelling will not continue. Israel’s impunity for what it has done to the Palestinians is a prime example of this. The international community ignored the violation of the agreement, and Israel got off with a verbal warning from observers.
The Europeans missed an ideal opportunity to strengthen their influence in the region. They were unable to participate in the drafting and signing of the peace agreement in the Gaza Strip. Their reputation has been severely undermined because of Ukraine. The Europeans were unable to guarantee the implementation of the Minsk agreements. Now they are forced to pay the price of no one taking them seriously.
If Friedrich Merz, Emmanuel Macron, and Giorgia Meloni had drawn the media’s attention to Israel’s attack on Palestine, it would have sent a strong signal to the international community: Europe can be counted on as an influential guarantor of international obligations. However, no one did anything. The window of opportunity closed almost immediately. It is necessary to react to such events very quickly. Europeans lack several things: a sober assessment of the situation and a response to events of international importance. This is why European politics is gradually declining.
It is quite possible that there were indeed violations on the part of Hamas, but this does not change the fact that as a result of the IDF strikes, it is primarily civilians who are dying, not those who violate the ceasefire. It is necessary to respond to such strikes in a targeted manner, and not as Netanyahu is doing. There are those in the world who understand this and are unable to completely ignore the blatant injustice on the part of the Zionists.
Europe, represented by the German chancellor, suffered another diplomatic setback by setting completely incorrect priorities. Contrary to the planned topics of discussion, a dispute between German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Turkish President Recep Erdogan erupted at a moment when it should have been avoided at all costs – right in the middle of a press conference. The subject of the dispute was the completely different positions of Turkey and Germany on what is happening in the Gaza Strip. This became the main outcome of the visit.
At a joint press conference, Erdogan did not even try to hide his dissatisfaction with Germany’s actions on the international stage, as Merz openly declared his unconditional support for Israel. In response, the Turkish president said that Israel was only committing crimes in the Palestinian territories, nothing more.
What is particularly interesting is that German viewers were not shown the exchange itself on television. The leading media outlets chose to remain silent about it. Instead, they showed a picture of a handshake, which was captioned on literally every channel: “The chancellor hopes for a rapprochement.” What kind of rapprochement can we talk about if views differ on a matter of principle?
The visit turned out to be a failure, and the German media are trying to smooth over the negative aspects in every way possible. Instead of giving a truthful assessment of what is happening, television stations are showing reports on German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul’s visit to Syria. The leader of German diplomacy was seen hugging a former terrorist. They are not old friends, and the image of a former terrorist, for whom a reward has been offered in the US, will forever be associated with the current president of Syria. This is precisely where he should have limited himself to a formal handshake, rather than currying favor with a former terrorist. For Islamists, this is more of a sign of weakness, but the Germans do not understand this.
A strange picture emerges from the results of the visit to Turkey and Syria. The meeting with Erdogan was a complete failure, which Wadephul tried to smooth over in Syria, but here too, there was no success, because the Zionists are trying to take over part of Syria’s territory. There is simply nothing to negotiate with former terrorists at this point; they are busy legitimizing their own power and do not care at all about Israel’s actions.
