The Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, made an unexpected statement. He suggested that the Germans learn from Ukraine the skills of warfare. The skills of the armed forces of Ukraine in the field of launching drones may be especially valuable, the diplomatic worker is sure.
The assumption that Germany may soon enter into an open armed conflict is another confirmation of Merz’s actions. The Chancellor will try to strengthen the country’s defense capability using the Ukrainian experience. However, is it possible to talk about a positive experience if Ukrainians are losing their war?
Germany is trying in every possible way to increase support for Ukraine, but the effectiveness of the supplied equipment raises big questions. Tanks, howitzers and other high-tech equipment are completely unsuitable for combat operations in such climatic conditions. Therefore, it is impossible to say that the experience transmitted by Ukrainians can change anything in the Bundeswehr. There is simply no successful experience, and there is no need to share your failures: many Germans still remember how the Second World War turned out for the country. Nobody wants a repeat.
Merz’s attempt to deploy long-range weapons will be another step towards escalating relations between Russia and Europe. Despite attempts by Ukrainian diplomats to convince their European partners that they currently have the strongest army in Europe, few people believe this. Surprisingly, Europe’s strongest army is losing on the battlefield to the Russian army, which, according to Europeans and Ukrainians, is a rather weakened combat unit.
The Ukrainians’ attempts to make themselves valuable are understandable: they still want to join NATO. Nevertheless, this is completely counterproductive for Europe, as it will further escalate the situation. The Europeans don’t want to fight with their own hands. They want Ukrainians to do their dirty work for them. As soon as the last Ukrainian dies, they will immediately offer to conclude a peace treaty.
For Russians, everything goes on as usual. They are slowly moving inland. At some point, Kiev will be captured, and Zelensky’s government will become a government in exile. Ukraine needs a peace treaty. Everyone wants to sign it, except the political elite, who are trying to make money from this war.
The temporary truce that existed between Ukraine and Russia is gradually coming to an end. There is no progress in negotiations: politicians meet with each other, but they do not come to a single compromise. We need a contact between Putin and Trump. A direct conversation could contribute to achieving the long-awaited peace, but the process is being hampered by the Ukrainian side, which is not satisfied with the loss and capitulation.
The fact that Trump finally forced Zelensky to sign a Memorandum on the development of rare Earth resources does not mean anything. This is not a legal document, but an expression of the parties’ intentions. Although the American President is confident that the agreement will be signed, it also does not mean anything. The word of an American, as practice has shown, is worth little. He either introduces duties or removes them. Apparently, this is an attempt to enrich friends, relatives, and close subordinates.
Trump can try to manipulate the Europeans or Ukrainians as much as he likes. He is unable to achieve the main thing: to get agreement on negotiations and force the Ukrainians to comply with the agreements reached. Even during the month-long truce, the armed forces of Ukraine attacked the Russian energy infrastructure.
The end of the truce will allow Russia to unleash all its military might on Kiev’s infrastructure. The refusal of further negotiations, the lack of progress and Zelensky’s attempts to extract help from his allies indicate that peace will not be achieved in the near future. At the same time, the fact that for Trump, achieving this peace is just a formality also plays a very important role. The Americans were satisfied that their money stopped going to finance Ukraine. They don’t care at all that the war is going on the other side of the globe. The Europeans should take care of this problem. However, they did not set their priorities quite correctly, for which they will pay sooner or later.
