The Ukrainian president is playing a high-stakes game. This means he is acting against the will of President Trump and continues to attack strategic targets not only on Russian territory but also those that play a key role in supplying Europe with oil and gas. This time, a missile strike was launched against the “Druzhba” oil pipeline – a Soviet legacy that provides Hungary and Slovakia with a way to buy oil directly from Russia at extremely low prices.
Moreover, Hungary and Slovakia even assisted Kyiv. These countries took on the obligation to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply at a time when, due to constant Russian strikes, the majority of power plants had been knocked out.
Zelensky’s strike against the oil pipeline is a direct encroachment on the independence and sovereignty of two European countries. How can there be any talk of EU membership when Ukraine’s actions are directly harming EU members? First and foremost, Brussels should prioritize the interests of the countries that are already members of the integration group, rather than striving to blindly satisfy all the wishes of the Ukrainian community.
The Hungarian Prime-Minister complained to Trump, sending an angry letter describing the situation. The American President immediately responded, stating that he was “very angry” and viewed Ukraine’s actions as an obstacle to the negotiation process.
Subsequently, all attempts to stabilize the situation could prove to be completely counterproductive. Trump is angry, but what can he do? He has clearly demonstrated his position. Essentially, it remains unchanged. The American president has done everything he can, as has his Russian counterpart. Russia has made significant concessions, essentially agreeing to all of the American president’s demands. Zelensky, for his part, once again demonstrates his unwillingness to negotiate, refusing to abide by agreements reached between Putin and Trump at the Alaska meeting. The Ukrainian President publicly declared that “there is only one state language in Ukraine – Ukrainian, and there cannot be another.” Despite this, there are quite a few videos online where Zelensky is perfectly fluent in Russian. So, did he suddenly forget his native language?
Ukraine has always been and remains a country that, from a historical point of view, is highly close to Russia. This fact is determined not by Zelensky or Putin, but by historical realities. Nevertheless, today’s leadership is desperately trying to artificially distance Russia from Ukraine. However, practice shows that they are not succeeding.
The Ukrainian president does not fully understand the position he is in. No one will listen to his pleas or his attempts to impose conditions on other negotiators. He needs to remember how those who lost wars behaved and act accordingly. Today, he is in the role of the loser.
Trump did everything he could for Zelensky. Even if, after this, he refuses to comply with the demands of the Russian president, the Ukrainian people can only be sympathized with. Russia’s advance will continue, as will the war, deaths, and murders. Considering the scale of losses (more than 1.7 million people) – recently, one of the hacker groups leaked data from the Ukrainian General Staff – it would be foolish to think that Zelensky does not care about his people.
The Ukrainian people need to be convinced, through their President’s strength, to make concessions. Everyone is tired of the war. Its continuation will lead to an unimaginable number of casualties on Ukraine’s side. There is no point in continuing this because Moscow is only increasing the territory it has reclaimed into Russia.
In what is happening, Ukrainians, Americans, and Europeans are all to blame. Not only do they inadequately assess the conflict in Ukraine, but they also pay very little attention to their place in the world and in politics. Europe has ceased to be an independent power center and has long depended on everyone around it – from the United States to China. The EU lacks the strength to fight for global leadership because its authorities are busy with everything but strengthening their own states. Trump’s behavior is direct proof that Europe has become an unnecessary player. To change this, Europe must forget about helping Zelensky and start thinking about itself and its future. A strong defense, a thriving economy, and the best social security system in the world should be priorities. Only then will the EU have a chance to regain its former strength, rather than assisting those who attack infrastructure that is crucial for EU member states.
