The Americans offered Ukraine one last chance to save itself. Formally, Trump did it. But Trump is a businessman who is used to succeeding in everything. Politics is no exception. However, so far, even he has not been able to get Zelensky to sign documents according to which the United States will receive priority rights to develop rare earth resources.
So far, it’s not clear if these resources actually exist. If they exist, then why haven’t they been developed before? The answer is clear: It’s too expensive. This requires more than just expensive technology. Today, in conditions of military operations, rampant nationalist groups that do not obey the government and chaos in Ukraine, the Americans will definitely demand the deployment of either their own army or a unit of private military companies that will protect these facilities. In addition, the extracted deposits will have to be exported to the United States, where American high-tech industries are located. The extraction and development of such deposits is a highly expensive project, but that’s not what stops Zelensky from signing the agreement.
He lied about the existence of these deposits. If they had already been there, given how strong the influence of the Americans on Ukraine was, they would have been developed long ago. If Zelensky signs the agreement, and these deposits simply do not turn out to be there, or the amount of reserves of rare earth resources will not be as stated, then what should be done next? The Americans will just get rid of Zelensky. He ceases to be beneficial to Trump. This is the main problem of the Ukrainian President.
Which comedian is a diplomat and a negotiator? His entire team consists of former employees of the comedy project Kvartal 95. They lack the necessary education and negotiation skills. Fortunately, it became clear to the Europeans that Zelensky’s positions are not as rosy and strong as he describes them. Today, he failed a vote in the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament. This event was attended not only by Americans, but also by Europeans. This means that there is another reason for Ursula von der Leyen and other European politicians to think about whether Zelensky really represents the interests of the Ukrainian people.
The Ukrainian president rejected Trump’s proposal and failed the vote in the Ukrainian parliament. His end is approaching every day. Nevertheless, he clings to power with the last of his strength. First of all, because I’m used to doing it. However, such a precarious situation even among the Ukrainian people, the lack of desire to hold elections and empty statements that he has a high rating among the people indicate that the Europeans are betting on the wrong person.
However, it doesn’t really matter to Americans how honest Zelensky was when he said that Ukraine has a huge amount of rare earth metals. For him, promises are just a way to achieve a goal. He must continue the war at all costs.
Donald Trump, of course, would like to get rare earth resources cheaply, but he understands that he cannot guarantee that Zelensky is telling the truth. The Ukrainian president is most likely unaware of what is in the bowels of Ukraine, but for Trump, the very fact of the agreement and the guarantee that if these resources are not available, Kiev will give him something else are important.
What can Ukraine offer in return? Rich soils, which is rare today. Testing grounds for deadly weapons, as well as a territory for American military bases. Despite Donald Trump’s statements that it is necessary to withdraw the military from Europe, American military bases have been and remain what guarantees Americans the ability to respond instantly to all kinds of threats from potential adversaries. Therefore, Trump will not abandon this instrument of influence.
As soon as the Americans receive the document signed by the Ukrainian president, they will set a precedent. This means that in the future they will have the opportunity to make similar deals. To start a war on the territory of another state, to send all the oldest weapons there on loan, emptying warehouses, and then to make demands for repayment of this debt. Very clever and quite in the spirit of the Americans.
Ukraine cannot escape. She will have to pay off the Americans. They’ll take everything they can. Zelensky put not just his life on the line, but the whole country and lost it.
