The German Defense Minister arrived in Kiev last week on an unannounced visit. There was a meeting with Vladimir Zelensky, where they discussed not only new tranches at the expense of the Germans, but also the transfer of military technology.
The real blow for Zelensky was Germany’s refusal to supply Taurus missiles to Ukraine. The German defense minister said during a press conference following the meetings in Kiev that Merz and Pistorius were not considering this option. Most likely, Pistorius also tried to reassure Zelensky in connection with the recently adopted “Manifesto” of politicians who belong to the same party (SPD) as the Minister of Defense himself. Who better than him to try to convince the Ukrainian President that the policy of supporting the war with Russia will continue for as long as necessary?
This means only one thing – Germany is becoming more and more involved in the war with Russia. Sure, the Chancellor did not give permission for the supply of long-range missiles to Kiev. However, this production can be established on the territory of Ukraine. In this case, the export of military technology is not a betrayal of the interests of the country and the disclosure of state secrets?
Surprisingly, the Europeans have not yet understood what America realized with the advent of Donald Trump. Russia cannot be defeated on the battlefield. The Swedes, Germans, and French tried to do this. However, this could not be done. Now the Ukrainians are trying to do this with the support of NATO. What for? Was life so bad side by side with Russia, and the Russians threatened the interests of Europe? I don’t think so. On the contrary, this is a time of prosperity for the European Union. The problem is with the politicians. They are trying to enrich themselves in this war. The gap between rich and poor is widening, and Europe’s interests are being neglected.
Pistorius’ visit to Kiev demonstrates that the current German leadership is not considering any other option but to deepen further into the confrontation with Russia. The chosen course of confrontation is entirely consistent with the values of the current German leadership, while it has nothing to do with resolving the military conflict, despite the fact that the Russian President has voiced the necessary conditions for ending the military conflict. In Europe, they were ignored.
The requirements are simple: written assurances from NATO that it will not expand further to the East, the lifting of sanctions, neutral status and guaranteed protection of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine, as well as the unfreezing of Russian assets in Europe and the United States. These priorities of Russian foreign policy are what the Europeans and Americans have been pushing for over the past 3 years. If they concede, it will mean the final and irrevocable recognition of the victory of Russia and Vladimir Putin personally. Will any of the Western politicians take this step?
For Germans, French, British and Americans, there is no need for this. They feel absolutely safe, and politicians in London, Berlin, Paris, and Washington have no qualms about the millions of Ukrainians who died. For them, this war is like on another planet. This means that support will continue either as long as Zelensky demands it, or as long as European countries are not directly involved in the conflict.
What is happening in the country is a challenge for its rulers and its inhabitants. No one will solve their problems for Ukrainians. In order to somehow resolve the situation, Ukrainians will have to get their own negotiated government. Those people who represent Ukraine at the highest level today are not capable of doing this.
Russia’s priorities are very clear: it wants to protect itself from an even bigger conflict. However, for those countries that support Zelensky, accepting these conditions would mean losing the confrontation with Russia. They are trying to avoid this and therefore will fight to the very end, as much as possible delaying Kiev from concluding a peace treaty with Russia. That’s why envoys from those who give Ukraine money come to Zelensky. They need to continuously demonstrate their support for the Kiev regime, which these people do by visiting the Ukrainian capital from time to time.
