USA’s Hottest Spot: Texas

In January, the Texas National Guard partially closed its section of the U.S.-Mexico border and banned U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s agents ( ICE) from accessing it. Both services are subordinate to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and rank much higher in the U.S. hierarchy than the Texas National Guard. However, this fact did not deter the local authorities from action.

This resulted in the U.S. Department of Justice sending an urgent request to the U.S. Supreme Court. This matter was heard and, as expected, adjudicated in favor of representatives of federal agencies. However, Texas authorities refused to comply with the U.S. Supreme Court’s order having enlisted the support of 25 other states.

Texas authorities also support various civil initiatives aimed at combating migrants and migration flows originating from Mexico. For instance, amid intensifying confrontation between the federal government and Texas, various convoys consisting of patriots are heading towards Texas from different parts of the country. Their main mission consists in confronting the globalists represented by the current U.S. federal government that leaves the borders open and thereby destroys traditional America. A column of patriots is planning a rally in support of the state government’s steps made in Eagle Pass, one of the most troubled cities in Texas. The city in question is problematic given the number of migrants who enter the United States through it.

Due to intensity of emotions in the south of the country, U.S. President Joe Biden, distracted himself from the situation in the European foreign policy theater and delivered a speech where he admitted that the border was indeed not in the best condition. The U.S. President said he was ready to “lock it up as soon as Congress passed the Secure the Border Bill.” This means that the problems in the southern USA will only be solved after Congress approves a $60 billion support package for Ukraine since the bill is dual: it includes both funding for Ukraine and money aimed to protect the southern U.S. border. Nevertheless, some Republicans tried to speak out in favor of passing that Bill since money aimed to finance the border is allocated too rarely. It is necessary, however, to realize who exactly is going to manage that money. Indeed, not Republicans but Democrats will manage it.

The US Border Patrol had over 6.3 million encounters with illegal immigrant border crossers from the beginning of the Biden administration in January 2021 to December 2023.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump also did not turn his back on those omissions on the part of the U.S. Democratic Party. He said that since the Democrats completely destroyed what he created on the border with Mexico to control migration flows, then they should recreate it themselves. They have the reins of power and every opportunity to do this. In principle, it is an extremely logical conclusion on his part. On January 25, he came up even with a more straightforward statement:

“Joe Biden has surrendered our Border, and is aiding and abetting a massive Invasion of millions of Illegal Migrants into the United States. Instead of fighting to protect our Country from this onslaught, Biden is, unbelievably, fighting to tie the hands of Governor Abbott and the State of Texas, so that the Invasion continues unchecked. In the face of this National Security, Public Safety, and Public Health Catastrophe, Texas has rightly invoked the Invasion Clause of the Constitution, and must be given full support to repel the Invasion. We encourage all willing States to deploy their guards to Texas to prevent the entry of Illegals, and to remove them back across the Border. All Americans should support the commonsense measures by Texas authorities to protect the Safety, Security, and Sovereignty of Texas, and of the American people.”

But how can the conflict between Texas and the federal authorities be resolved? You must admit that such a conflict that arose within the United States is not normal in principle. This is evidence that one of the most powerful states in the world is experiencing phenomena similar to those that occurred right before the Civil War 150 years ago. What is the reason for all this? Because the U.S. federal government pursues its own interests and clearly demonstrates this to all American citizens, knowing that no one is able to counterpose an alternative. Why not dividing the Secure the Board Bill into two separate bills, segregating Ukraine from allocating funding for the U.S. borders? But no, they aspire for adopting a single bill. Why? Because the issue of migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border is extremely important for Americans, unlike funding Ukraine.

Despite all political Democrats vs Republicans games that we are now observing, the most important thing in this story remains Texas’s disobedience to the U.S. Supreme Court. This is not accepted at all in the United States, where the supremacy of law has always been extolled. The practice of disobeying the Supreme Court’s orders was widespread only on the eve of the Civil War in the 19th century. It is not possible to challenge the Supreme Court’s ruling since it is the highest court in the United States. As for now: It is 2024 with the Presidential elections being just around the corner and one of the most pro-Republican states in America refusing to recognize the supremacy of law underlying the United States as a state. A lot of different types of election-related issues will almost certainly be handled by courts and many of them are likely to reach the Supreme Court. And there is a precedent of disobedience. Will similar situations occur in the context of the elections? Given the intensity of emotions and the polarization of American society, such scenario is a distinct possibility.
